The Bahamas island chain has a new on-demand drone delivery service with drone delivery companies Volans-i and Fli-drone.
The new service has just completed its first inter-island drone delivery.
The delivery originated at Abaco Aviation Services, a private FBO at The Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour and completed its delivery at Green Turtle Cay in 28 minutes.
Prior to drones the parcel would have travelled by car and ferry in a far slower time over the 50 miles.
CEO and co-founder of Volans-i, Hannan Parvizian, commented: “Volans-i is excited to embark on this strategic partnership with Hogfish Ventures and offer drone delivery services in The Bahamas through Fli Drone.”
Adding: “We see The Bahamas as a nation that is willing and wanting to adapt to match the pace of technology. Innovation in delivery systems, such as the leaps that drone delivery systems have enabled, should allow everyone to have new ways to tackle the challenge of getting supplies where they need them at the exact moment they need them.”
With the planned expansion of the drone delivery service, this matches a strong niche for these vehicles. Mostly over water for safety, they can cover distances not possible by traditional means. Island hopping just took a new dimension.
