The International Posts Corporation (IPC) INTERCONNECT network has reported record volumes over the last 12 months. Over the year it handled more than 100 million items, with 15.6m tracked items handled in December alone – a record month for the network in a record breaking year in terms of volumes.
The INTERCONNECT network is an agreement between 30 national postal operators which offers e-retailers and consumers a reliable end to end cross border postal delivery service. The agreement has three service levels – Premium (tracked plus signature), Standard (tracked) and Economy (untracked), and can handle items of up to 2kg untracked and 30kg tracked.
The growth was driven largely by the lasting changes to e-commerce by the pandemic, though Black Friday and the peak season drove traffic as well.
The IPC say that while 30 postal operators are in the INTERCONNECT network currently, there are new ones preparing to join in 2021.
