Japan Airlines tests fresh fish drone delivery

Japan Airlines has trialled fresh fish delivery from Nagasaki to Tokyo using drones.

The Yamaha FAZER-G2 drone flew a cool box 46km between Kamigoto and Ojika airports on February 18. The temperature inside the cool box was monitored and logged to ensure the environment was kept at a certain level.

The next day, 20kg of fresh fish were packed into the cool box at Kamigoto airport and flown to Saikai some 35kms away, and the fish was taken on to Nagasaki airport by truck.

The fish was then flown by Japan Airlines to Tokyo Haneda Airport in a passenger aircraft and the fish was cooked and eaten in a restaurant the same day.

The temperature monitoring showed safe tolerances for the whole trip.
