JD Logistics plans major expansion

Chinese delivery giant JD Logistics is to upgrade its lower tier markets programme to provide 24-hour deliveries in more than 1,000 new counties and several thousand townships in China.

To make this possible, JD Logistics is to either expand or construct 13 new warehouses and transfer centres. The focus of the expansion will be on second to fifth-tier cities across China. It is to operate 12 of its automated Asia No.1 logistics parks and that have traditionally focused only on first and second tier cities.

At the same time the JD.com ‘cloud warehouse’, integrated ‘factory as warehouse’ and ‘shop as warehouse’ models will now all be coordinated.

A JD Logistics representative said, “With the new initiative, we are bringing Asia No.1 to lower tier provincial capitals, such as Harbin, Shenyang, Changchun, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, as well as logistics hubs such as Langfang, Guanghua and Chuzhou. Leveraging our technology experience in lower tier markets is an important future development direction for JD.”
