Jersey Post acquires community e-commerce operation

Jersey Post has acquired a Jersey based community e-commerce company that was originally set up to support islanders in the pandemic.

Fetch.je was set up in March to support the community with online shopping through local retailers and is effectively a marketplace for Jersey based retailers and restaurants.

The postal operator worked closely with Fetch.je from the start using its infrastructure and delivery network. The plan for the acquisition is to provide an end-to-end capability for Fetch.je and the community it serves. Jersey Post will now handle the online platform, warehouse management, shipping systems as well as physical storage, fulfilment, conveyance and final-mile delivery.

Jersey Post Group has been on an international growth and acquisition strategy for many years, but while this is not international in nature the acquisition fits in with the plans, and supports its universal service obligation.

Tim Brown, chief executive at Jersey Post, said, “The Fetch.je acquisition may not be as global as our other partnerships but it is just as significant in its importance and role within our community. With Covid-19 continuing to disrupt normal daily routines, this website plays a vital strategic role in local business continuity, employment and safe shopping methods for the Jersey community.
