John Stanhope to step down as Chair of Australia Post

Following the conclusion of his second term of his second term on 21 November, John Stanhope AM is to stand down as Chair of the Board of Australia Post.

The Australian Government released a statement to say: “We thank Mr Stanhope for his stewardship of one of Australia’s most trusted institutions and his commitment to making sure all Australians have access to high quality postal and parcel delivery services no matter where they live.

“Since 2012, Mr Stanhope has guided Australia Post through a significant period of disruption in its core business. He has led the Board in supporting Australia Post’s transformation from a traditional postal service into a diversified e-commerce and digital enterprise,” the statement continues.

Australia Post has undergone major change under Stanhope. The firm has improved its letters delivery service in the face of declining volumes has acquired Star Track Express in order to boost the postal operator’s parcel delivery capacity, as well as embracing new delivery technologies amongst others.

The appointment of the new Chair will be announced by the government in short order.
