Jokr aims to be first carbon negative grocery delivery firm

In an attempt to become the world’s first carbon-negative grocery delivery firm, Jokr is working with German green-tech company Plan A software to significantly reduce its carbon emissions.

Plan A has developed software for carbon accounting, decarbonisation, environmental social and governance (ESG) management and automated reporting. In 2022 the software will be used by Jokr to measure and account for its carbon emissions in line with internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards across its business with 2022 as its base year in the analysis phase.

According to the grocery delivery firm, the same software’s AI will then look at developing a whole-business, science based strategy to decarbonise its entire supply chain by 2030.

“Sustainability is a crucial part of our corporate DNA,” noted Ralf Wenzel, CEO of New York-based Jokr, which operates across the United States, Latin America and Europe. “In everything we do, we want to have a positive impact on our environment. That’s why we chose Plan A’s software solution. Unlike many others, this does not immediately resort to compensation measures, but challenges us as a company to critically question all our practices. We trust Plan A’s scientific expertise to identify the right measures and sustainably decarbonise our business operations.”

According to Jokr there will be four steps to the process from optimising demand and supply to minimise excess energy consumption, electrifying its entire fleet, decarbonising the energy consumption to 100% renewables and finally to ensure suppliers are disclosing and reducing their own emissions.
