Swiss specialist logistics company Kuehne & Nagel has won a long term global logistics contract for UK pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
Kuehne and Nagel have secured the contract, that will continue until 2021, and will operatoe the core business of moving the products from the raw materials supplier to trade customers of GSK.
According to the Swiss company it will offer skills, expertise and strategic capability to deliver enhanced value across the pharmaceutical company’s global supply chain operations.
CEO of Kuehne & Nagel, Detlef Trefzger said of the new contract, “We are very excited about this long term collaboration with GSK. Our focus is to leverage existing experience and industry-specific solutions serving the pharmaceutical and consumer sector which will deliver incremental benefits to GSK.
“Our integrated logistics approach, comprising air, sea, overland services and Logistics Control Centres in four regional hubs will enable GSK’s global supply chains to move to the next level of performance.”
GSK is one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Based in the UK it develops and sells medicines and medical products to almost every market in the developed and developing world. As such the contract won by Kuehne & Nagel is an extremely valuable and far reaching deal that should hold it in good stead for many years to come.
Kuehne & Nagel has a range of temperature controlled specialist facilities around the world that will meet the needs of the global pharmaceuticals giant. At the beginning of the year, Kuehne & Nagel opened a new Singapore Logistics hub that involved an investment of over $100 million. The site is situated in the west of Singapore and is 50,000m² in size. It has been developed to provide services for the company’s customers operating within Singapore and the ASEAN countries.
