Recent Technical Advisor to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Maria Renz is to be appointed to a new role as ‘Vice President of Delivery Experience’. Renz served as Bezos’ Technical Advisor for the last two years.
The role of Technical Advisor is a highly sought after post in Amazon and does lead to great things for the person in that role. The role is effectively to be Bezos’ shadow and right hand person and involved sitting in on all of his meetings and sharing his itinerary. Former holders of the post have gone on to manage important company initiatives. The fact that Renz is moving into the Delivery Experience role at Amazon is a signal that the company is taking its delivery and logistics infrastructure extremely seriously.
As her LinkedIn profile shows, Renz has been a long-serving Amazon executive. She joined the company in 1999 and her roles have included: Vice President and General Manager, Physical Media & Canada; Director Marketing Communications; Director, Health, Beauty & Grocery; Vice President Shoes & Jewelry, President Endless and Woot, Founder and President MyHabit; Vice President and General Manager, Physical Media & Canada; and CEO of Quidsi.
Given Amazon’s advanced and very public plans to use drones in the delivery process, as well as its extension of its FBA programme globally, it is easy to see that it is moving from being a plain old retailer toward being a warehousing and logistics company.
