Mileway builds new speculative development in Yorkshire

A new, 76,000 square foot warehousing speculative development is being built at the Norquest Industrial Estate at Birstall, West Yorkshire. Triton Construction is building the new shed for last mile logistics real estate company Mileway.

The site will include four warehouses with space ranging from 2,723 sq ft to 36,383 sq ft, and will add to Mileway’s 4.7 million square feet of logistics properties in the UK. Mileway is the largest owner and manager of last mile logistics assets in Europe, with units close to many urban centres to shorten the final mile delivery of goods to customers. Tenants of the property owning company include FedEx, Amazon and Boots.

The Norquest site is close to J27 of the M62 and has the potential to create up to 150 new jobs. Planning consent was given in summer 2021 and Triton has begun site preparation, with plans to complete construction by the end of the year.

Paul Clarkson, managing director at Triton Construction, said: “The site, formerly an ambulance depot, needed some remediation.

“We have demolished the existing structures and are now progressing steelworks for the project and will complete the four buildings along with first floor office fit out, installing new mains services, hardstanding yards and new access roads.”
