New BEUMER sortation system at Hermes super hub

A new BEUMER Group sortation system has been supplied to delivery company Hermes’ Midlands Super Hub in Rugby. This is the third machine at the super hub and is capable of handling up to a million parcels per day.

The first two sortation systems were installed at the super hub in 2017. Rapid growth in business for Hermes saw the company order this third system soon after the hub went into operation.

Unlike the two other systems, BEUMER Group had to install the sortation system during regular working hours without interrupting operations at the Hermes hub using creative engineering solutions as well as a rail based crane systems to install the heavy components on top of a two-tiered structure.

Martijn de Lange, CEO at Hermes UK commented: “For the last few years we have witnessed double-digit growth due to our commitment to invest in our world-class network and infrastructure, our innovative fleet and our industry-leading portfolio of services solutions. In addition, our in-house engineering team is constantly optimising our equipment to ensure it is best in class and we will soon be introducing further automation to support our returns process in the coming months.

“Last year, we enjoyed our most effective and busiest peak season to date, whilst, at the same time, achieving record service levels and I’m absolutely confident the third sortation tier in Rugby will put us in the strongest possible position to further support the retail industry over the coming years.”
