NGC Logistics puts electric Amazon van into operation

A fully electric delivery van has joined Amazon’s outsourced fleet for the first time in the UK – NGC Logistics has started to run the vehicle out of its base in Northampton.

The van is an all electric Renault Trucks Master Red Edition ZE. It has a 57kW ZE motor powered by a 33kWh li-ion battery. It was put into operation for the Black Friday peak and is the first of four 3.1 tonne electric Master ZEs to join the fleet.

Kevin Savage, operations director at NGC, said: “This investment into electric vans is entirely led by our customers; with Amazon clearly stating their intention to become carbon neutral and consumers becoming more aware of their impact on climate change.

“The need to change without slowing the supply chain or significantly increasing cost was paramount and has been achieved through cooperation with everyone involved delivering the program in time for the busiest period of the year,” Savage added.

“With the ever-increasing demand for environmentally-friendly vehicles and the introduction of more low emission zones, we decided to not only invest in electric vehicles but also to set ourselves a challenging deadline of a Black Friday launch to market.”
