Within a week of its call for more space for the NHS, the CBRE has managed to secure some 14.25 million square feet of storage space. As well as this the property consultants have managed to find 195,000 car parking spaces and 145,000 beds for NHS staff near their hospitals.
The call went out last week and has had a phenomenal response from 3PLs, companies, landlords and developers in both the commercial and residential sectors.
One of those to respond was Galliard Homes that has donated one of its substantial warehouse complexes in Essex. This is to become an emergency local community facility that stores essential supplies.
The Galliard Homes site is in partnership with Essex County Council (ECC) with a 61,000 square foot storage warehouse on a 2.5 acre site. For this to happen, Galliard has paused its commercial operations from this site and moved all construction equipment previously stored there. Trucks supplying ECC and the NHS have already started arriving there.
Chris Duffy, acquisitions and commercial director at Galliard Homes said: “The decision to transform one of our warehouse complexes into an emergency depot for key supplies will support our government and NHS heroes in the fight against COVID-19. We were pleased to see the arrival of the first supplies, and for this facility to provide much-needed assistance.”
