Online supermarket Ocado is to hire nearly 1800 new staff before December. This follows a successful expansion of its business nationwide and double digit growth in sales.
The recruitment drive to hire 1798 new permanent staff follows Q3 financial results where sales had grown by 17.3%. It now serves nearly half a million customers across the UK.
Most of the staff will be Customer Service Team Members, of which personal shoppers who load up the baskets for customers and van drivers who deliver the goods to them. Ocado will also open a new Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) in Andover next year where 700 new jobs will be created. The new 240,000 square foot CFC will have the capacity for 70,000 orders a week and will be home to 95 Ocado vans. It will also have a trailer park for 22 trailers.
Ocado isn’t the only major e-commerce related business to be hiring large numbers of permanent staff ahead of Christmas – as Apex Insight reported yesterday, parcel delivery company Yodel is hiring as many as 7000 staff, many of whom will be asked to remain after the peak period.
