Slovenian postal operator Pošta Slovenije has bought the logistics arm of the publisher Mladinska knjiga Založba (MKZ) for €13 million.
The postal operator has made the purchase as part of an attempt to offset the decline of the postal market. A statement from Pošta Slovenije said this is part of a business plan to become “one of the major providers of trade logistics and supply chains in Slovenia and the wider region.”
Another aspect of the deal is that the postal operator will own a network of warehouses and storage facilities, that will further enable it to work in the e-commerce and B2B delivery side of the logistics and parcels markets.
As with many other postal operators around the world, with the decline in traditional mail services Pošta Slovenije is investing in the parcels market to retain business and survive the changes brought on by electronic communications.
