Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in Q2 of 2020 at PostNL is set to be considerably better than 2019 thanks to parcels growth in the COVID-19 crisis.
The Dutch postal operator has seen good results thus far but has indicated that it cannot project such results into the future thanks to the uncertainties of the political climate and whether there will be a second wave of illness.
Parcel volumes grew by 25% in April and May, accelerating from 14% in March. This trend toward strong growth is continuing even now.
Mail volumes, repeating trends at other postal operators around the world, took a big hit. In addition there were upward cost pressures at PostNL associated with the costs of personal protective equipment and social distancing of its staff.
