In the first financial quarter of this year, the Parcels and Mail segments of PostNL have seen strong growth thanks to the lockdown. Parcels saw operating profit of €90 million and Mail, €60m in the quarter.
PostNL believe that the boom in parcels is set to ease off as lockdown restrictions allow people to shop on the high street again. However the postal operator believes that the underlying growth in e-commerce is solid and set to continue. The Mail segment saw a spike in the quarter thanks to mail-in voting and letters related to the vaccination programme.
Herna Verhagen, CEO of PostNL, commented: “We had a very good start of the year and continued the momentum that we’ve seen since the second quarter of last year. Our results once again prove our collective resilience and flexibility during ongoing unprecedented circumstances.”
