PostNord gets country platform on Tmail Global

Danish postal operator PostNord Denmark has announced it has entered into a new collaboration with Chinese online marketplace Alibaba’s Tmail Global. This should give access for Danish and Nordic online retailers to around 350 million Chinese customers.

According to PostNord Denmark, this should mean that “parcel volumes from the Nordic region to China will increase”. This will mean that there will be a Nordic platform on the shopping portal Tmail Global.

Peter Kjær Jensen, Post Nord’s Head of business area eCommerce and Logistics said in a statement “China has about 350 million consumers who shop online, and Alibaba Group is the biggest e-commerce player. So we are thrilled about this collaboration, which makes it possible for us to help Danish and Nordic businesses sell their products in China, while we handle shipping.”

Amee Chande, Alibaba Group’s country manager for the UK/Ireland and the Nordic region added: “Alibaba Group sees the collaboration as a central partnership that gives Chinese consumers access to high-quality products.

“Danish and Nordic brands will now be exposed to the more than one hundred million Chinese consumers who visit our platform in search of unique, international products. We see the collaboration with PostNord as a central partnership in Europe that gives Chinese consumers access to high-quality products.”

The Danish company has already been working for quite some time with China Post, whose portal ule.com served as a gateway for numerous Danish e-retailers who wanted to enter the Chinese market.

There will be a number of new entrants to the Tmail Global site in the coming months, with Alibaba working with Royal Mail and Australia Post to establish country platforms on the site. Where Alibaba is commonly seen as a marketplace for western countries to buy from China, Alibaba is increasingly focusing on cash flows coming from China to Europe.
