On Friday Royal Mail announced it had exceeded the regulatory Quality of Service targets for both its First Class and Second Class mail.
For FY2016-17, 93.1% of First Class mail was delivered the next working day, which means it surpassed the 93.0% target; and 98.9% of Second Class mail was delivered within three working days (beating the 98.5% target.)
During the fourth quarter of the year, Royal Mail also delivered 93.1% of First Class mail on time and 98.8% of Second Class mail on time.
For 2016-17, at an individual postcode level, 110 of 118 postcode areas met or exceeded their targets over the year. Allowing for the margin of error in sampling, 117 of 118 postcode areas were within the target range.
Sue Whalley, Royal Mail’s Chief Operations Officer, commented: “We are very proud of the service we offer our customers. Our postmen and women deliver to some of the most challenging performance targets in Europe.
“I would like to thank all our people for their great efforts throughout the year. We are committed to maintaining and improving these high standards of service for all our customers.”
