Royal Mail has enhanced its Special Delivery service for clients posting a minimum of 50 items over the weekend. Business account customers using the service can now dispatch parcels up to 1900 on a Saturday and 1600 on a Sunday for Monday delivery.
The weekend collection service is open to customers in England and Wales. The consignments, which will be collected free of charge, can be made up of Royal Mail Tracked, Royal Mail International and Special Delivery Guaranteed parcels.
The Royal Mail Special Delivery service is mainly used for urgent, time critical and valuable items. Customers can choose between two services – Delivery by 9am or Delivery by 1pm (paying more for the former service).
The postal operator has also improved its premium Sameday service, so customers can now book courier services online. You don’t have to have an account with Royal Mail to do this, and pay on a pay as you go basis any time day or night without an account.
Commenting on the new weekend collections service for account business customers, Nick Landon, Managing Director Royal Mail Parcels, said, “This latest enhancement to our service is yet another example of how Royal Mail is providing innovative service enhancements that help online retailers meet their customers’ needs.”
As competition in the parcel delivery sector heats up, so Royal Mail is working hard to win new customers and retain old ones. The improvements to the Special Delivery business account service should keep the postal operator’s edge in a fiercely competitive market.
