Royal Mail – pandemic online shopping habits revealed

Royal Mail has published research showing that for many customers, receiving parcels is the highlight of their day in lockdown, with 45% doing more online shopping during the period.

Some 53% of those surveyed said that receiving parcels has become more important since lockdown began while 36% felt that a parcel delivery is the highlight of their day.

Looking to the future, 83% of UK adults say that they are likely to continue with their increased online shopping patterns.

The Royal Mail research showed that there is little in the way of age variation in these findings with the age group 18-34 and 55+ broadly the same in these opinions.

Shane O’Riordain, Managing Director of Marketing, Regulation & Corporate Affairs at Royal Mail commented: “Keeping the nation connected in these unprecedented times is of vital importance to us. It is perhaps unsurprising that for many customers, receiving an item that they have ordered online from our postmen and postwomen can really brighten up their day in such challenging times.”
