Safilo Group switches over to JDA Demand and JDA Fulfilment

Premium Italian spectacles and sunglasses manufacturer Safilo Group has completed its implementation of JDA Demand and JDA Fulfilment. The company, which has a number of high fashion brands, had over invested in inventory for many years and the software developed by JDA should significantly improve its forecasting, reducing inventory over investment.

Safilo Group makes Carrera, Polaroid, Smith, Safilo and Oxido sunglasses and prescription eyeware. The company also has licenses to make Dior, Gucci, Fendi, Jimmy Choo and a number of other high fashion brands. It is a global leader in this sector with annual revenues of over €1.8bn, and sells through 90,000 stores worldwide.

Safilo’s systems were developed in house and could not accurately predict the movements in the market. With the unpredictability of the high fashion market, manufacturing the correct number of goods with minimal stock left over at the end of a season has proved extremely difficult. JDA Demand and Fulfilment software more accurately predicts the business’s future needs and it is believed that this should significantly reduce excess stock year on year.

Regional Vice President of JDA EMEA Andrew Kirkwood said of the new system’s implementation, ”We’re delighted that solutions from JDA are helping Safilo gain a clearer picture of global demand, so that inventory investments can be minimized. We’re also gratified that Safilo is leveraging JDA software to achieve profitable fulfillment, which is equally challenging in today’s environment of ‘me commerce’ and increasing consumer demands.”
