Shipster launched by Australia Post

Along with more than 40 e-retailers, Australia Post is launching a new membership programme called Shipster that offers free shipping on certain purchases through the coming Christmas season.

The Shipster free shipping season begins now and runs until the 1st January for shoppers in the three major cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The introductory cost is AUD$9.95 for the first period, and this allows for free shipping whenever customers spend more than AUD$25 or more at participating stores. They will also be eligible for one free delivery by Deliveroo every month. After the introductory period this will be $6.95 a month.

Members of Shipster will have their shipping costs automatically adjusted on the eligible purchases at checkout.

Australia Post Acting Managing Director & Group CEO Christine Corbett said the service has been launched just in time for the Christmas run-up.

“We know our customers love to shop online and this Christmas we expect more gifts to be bought online than ever before. Shipster lets you shop with confidence knowing that there will be no surprises at the checkout,” Ms Corbett said.

“When you shop with Shipster, all you need to do is spend $25 and over to unlock free shipping from more than 40 of Australia’s biggest and most-loved retailers.

“And with online shopping growing from 11.5 per cent to 15 per cent in the last 12 months, we’re predicting the busiest year for online shopping we’ve ever seen at Australia Post.”

As part of its efforts to survive the changes in the sector, Australia Post has focused on acting as an e-commerce enabler. Shipster sits very much within this strategy. The postal operator’s links with Deliveroo adds food delivery into the mix.
