Study published into AVs in London

The Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) and the Cross River Partnership have released a report that looks at the future impact of freight autonomous vehicles (AVs) on the London boroughs.

The study aims to “equip boroughs to take full advantage of the benefits of freight AVs whilst mitigating any potential challenges”.

The study by TRL has recommended that the government should look at implementing a regulatory framework, as well as invest in the technology and incentivise logistics operators to adopt freight AVs. The report added that “Ensuring suitable infrastructure is in place to support AV functionality and safety features prior to full deployment is important.”

CRP commissioned the study as part of its role coordinating the Central London Sub Regional Transport Partnership, which is a collaboration of eight central London boroughs working to develop and innovate sub-regional transport priorities on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).
