Swiss Post of tomorrow strategy launched

In order to continue providing a high quality universal service, Swiss Post is aiming at targeted growth in its core businesses through the ‘Swiss Post of tomorrow’ strategy.

With Switzerland undergoing dynamic change, the aim is for the postal operator to meet its customers’ core needs. Swiss Post is focusing on developing its more competencies – the transport of goods, information and people, as well as financial services. To do this it is planning a clean change of course in the development of its network, opening it to service companies and public authorities, stabilising the number of its own branches at the same time.

“We want to continue to be a Swiss Post for the people and economy of Switzerland, so that they can develop in a dynamic way”, said Urs Schwaller, the Chairman of Swiss Post’s Board of Directors. Since 1849, Swiss Post has been bringing Switzerland together every day and has been providing a reliable public service. The environment has changed markedly over the past 20 years.


Thanks to digitisation, letter volumes and over-the-counter volumes have fallen sharply. At the same time the parcels market is booming. Swiss Post has crystallised its aims in a ‘Swiss Post of tomorrow’ strategy. “The aim is for Swiss Post to grow again as a company”, Urs Schwaller emphasised.

The ‘Swiss Post of tomorrow’ is based on the postal operator’s traditional strengths. “We’re focusing on the competencies and markets that we believe will create the greatest benefit for Switzerland”, says Roberto Cirillo, Swiss Post CEO. The new strategy is scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2021 and will run until 2024.
