Swiss Post resumes drone flights after crash

Swiss Post has resumed its medical drone flights after an investigation into a drone crash on Lake Zurich.

According to the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board’s (STSB) investigation, a short circuit on the drone led to the controlled crash landing. Matternet, the drone manufacturers have made alterations to the done, approved by the STSB, that should prevent similar incidents in the future.

Before the drone crash on the 25th January, some 3,000 successful drone delivery flights had been made. According to a statement from Swiss Post, “Compared to couriers on the road, drones save valuable time for doctors, caregivers and patients. As with ground transportation, incidents in the air can never be completely ruled out. Measures undertaken on the drone itself and in the choice of route help to keep the residual risk as low as possible.”
