Tesco tests Starship robo-deliveries in London

Tesco is testing out Starship delivery robots in the London area.

Commenting on the tests, Tesco said: “We are always looking at new ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers.

“We carried out a one-off trial as part of our Tesco Now initiative in partnership with a technology company. We learnt a great deal from this trial and we’ll be reviewing feedback before deciding our next steps.”

Tesco Now is a new one hour delivery service that the grocer is starting to roll out in London, in what some see as a response to the Amazon Prime Now offering around the Capital.

While the electric powered robots may go some way to tackling congestion in London, the city of San Francisco is actively considering banning them from footpaths and pavements. It is as much for companies to test out as it is for municipalities and cities. It will be interesting to see how these machines are received…
