More details have been released about the new Uber Eats delivery drone, that the company says should start flying by the end of 2019.
The design of the delivery drone allows for one meal for two people to be carried. It has rotating wings and six rotors, and can take off and land vertically. It has a maximum flight time of eight minutes including loading and unloading, and a maximum round trip delivery range of 12 miles.
When a restaurant takes an order it loads up the drone with the food and the drone flies to the customer at a pre-arranged landing place. The Uber Elevate Cloud Systems will track and guide the drone, as well as notifying an Uber Eats driver as to where to pick the parcel up for any final-yard delivery.
Uber plans to start its drone delivery service in full in San Diego next summer.
