Perhaps one of the last to make the announcement, UPS UK has said it is hiring 1400 seasonal employees for this peak season. Globally, UPS says that it expects to deliver nearly 750 million packages around the world in the 2017 Christmas shopping period, which will be around 5% more than it had done in 2016.
“The growing package volumes associated with holiday shipping coincide with rising customer expectations of swift, stress-free deliveries,” said Luis Arriaga, president, UPS UK, Ireland & Nordics. “UPS’s global network allows us to offer shoppers and retailers a wide range of products and services, which can be adapted to meet their needs. These seasonal hires will help us meet the rising demand.”
It is worth noting that even with automation being ramped up in the sector, many of those seasonal staff who are taken on by delivery firms for this peak season may end up being asked to stay on due to the projected increases in demand for the coming years.
