Online shipping marketplace and freight automation service provider uShip has partnered with DB Schenker to develop Drive4Schenker that will be launched later this year. This is a five year agreement and will be exclusive within Europe.
The system uses uShip Pro, uShip’s enterprise technology platform, that will automate and optimise the management of 25,000 carriers as well as execute up to 10,000 loads a day through DB Schenker’s network that is Europe’s largest trucking business.
uShip Pro allows any business that uses freight to create their own network of vetted carriers that compete to win the shipper’s business. These might be enterprise shippers, 3PL companies, e-commerce merchants or vehicle manufacturers.
The private network provides carrier reviews, shipment level offer price, as well as mobile shipment acceptance and tracking. It allows 3PLs and direct shippers access more carriers, while giving real time tracking, more truck capacity and enables them to have lower freight expenditures.
“uShip’s approach transforms our transportation management to the next level,” said Jochen Thewes, CEO Schenker AG.
“For DB Schenker, the future of our land transport business is automation, standardization and more efficient engagement with our thousands of transport partners, especially through mobile devices. We’re confident uShip’s proven, scaled platform will help us to change and re-engineer our business model.”
“uShip PRO works like a TMS for covering loads, but is far more efficient because it’s automated, transparent and mobile,” said Matt Chasen, CEO and founder of uShip.
“Studies show less than a third of shippers use a TMS today, which means a majority of shippers book freight through horribly inefficient means like phone calls, emails and fax machines. Partnering with DB Schenker is huge validation for our Web and mobile platform as we help them digitize their road freight business.”
