Hermes UK has developed an app where the parcel sender can send a video message with a package for the recipient to see or hear when the parcel arrives.
Hermes Play was developed by Hermes Innovation Lab in Leeds, and is designed to bring sender and recipient together through the message. Where a video is made it uses augmented reality to play the message on the package, projected by the mobile device. All videos can be saved for 30 days and shared on social media.
When the message is recorded a 2D barcode is created and added to the parcel label. On receipt the recipient would then scan the barcode to see or hear the message on their phone or tablet.
Martijn de Lange, CEO at Hermes UK, said: “At Hermes this year our mission is to make parcels personal again and our digital teams have been working hard to create new and exciting initiatives. Hermes Play is a fantastic service that can be used by consumers to send messages to family and friends or by businesses for a more commercially focussed approach. It’s designed to create a personal connection and make the experience of sending and receiving a parcel just that little bit more special”
The product will be available to anyone using the Hermes Send app (previously known as myHermes) later on this year and will be accessible on Android and Apple. Later this year Hermes Play will be made available to retail customers.
