Walmart Supply Chain invests $1.2bn in China

Walmart Supply Chain is to invest an additional $1.2bn in its Chinese grocery supply chain logistics operations.

As well as building China’s first customised fresh food distribution centre Walmart is to build or upgrade ten more such facilities within the next 10-20 years.

The South China Fresh Food Distribution Centre has been in operation since March this year. The DC currently serves more than 100 stores in Guangdong and Guangxi, moving around 165,000 cases of products daily.

Ryan McDaniel, Senior Vice President of Walmart China Supply Chain, said “Walmart continues to increase investment in supply-chain logistics in order to enable our omni-channel development, continue to provide our Chinese customers with great fresh products, and improve our service. We will invest to build more than 10 in China in the next 10-20 years.”
