Retail giant Walmart has announced it is to work with Ford in exploring delivering goods with autonomous vehicles.
The pilot is to take place in Miami-Dade County, Florida using Postmates as a delivery partner.
Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital operations at Walmart US, said: “Through it, we aim to learn more about how we can take advantage of self-driving vehicles to deliver fresh groceries – hand-picked by our personal shoppers – to customers.
“Before self-driving cars can go mainstream, we must get a better sense of how people want to interact with them. Together, we will gather crucial data to learn the best way to bring items to customers.”
Ford announced last year that a core part of its long term strategy would be in autonomous vehicles, an area of interest for many delivery providers due to perceived lower costs and issues to do with manpower.
