A survey by US, UPS owned e-commerce fulfilment company Ware2Go has shown that faster shipping will drive more sales than discounts in the case of US customers.
Among the merchants surveyed, the Ware2Go research showed that the best ways of driving e-commerce cart conversions were free shipping (56%), 1-2 day shipping (52%) followed by free gifts with the purchase and in-cart discounts (29% and 26% respectively). As one can see the shipping is far more effective in the eyes of the e-retailers.
Fast shipping also encourages customer loyalty. It showed that 71% of US customers were willing to pay for faster shipping. Some 59% of merchants had repeat custom where 1-2 day shipping is offered.
“Meeting consumer expectations for fast shipping requires powerful behind-the-scenes operations, from supply chain to last-mile delivery,” commented Ware2Go CEO Steve Denton.
“Merchants who optimise those operations through strategic partnerships are poised for success in today’s e-commerce-driven, B2E economy. This research validates the need for the type of flexible and scalable infrastructure Ware2Go’s model affords its merchant partners.”
