Mail and parcel delivery specialist Whistl has opened its new Bolton super depot, at the Logistics North development.
The parcels and mail delivery company began the move into the building in April, and has been installing machinery enabling it to process mail and parcels for distribution around the UK. Whistl expects to create 500 jobs at the site that is near Junction 4 of the M61.
Whistl’s new site consolidates operations that had been taking place in Leeds and Warrington. The site has 33% greater capacity than the two old depots for future expansion of existing mail, packet and e-commerce business.
The building has 4 level access doors, 20 dock levellers, 50 trailer parking spaces, 31 loading positions and 222 car parking spaces.
Nick Wells, CEO Whistl: said: “The opening of Bolton is a significant development for us at Whistl as we continue to invest in the business to provide clients with the highest quality and most efficient service.”
As with all major players in e-commerce and parcel delivery, Whistl is seeing significant growth (albeit with very tight margins and fierce competition) as the sector grows from strength to strength. In consolidating operations into one unit it drives in efficiencies and with redundant capacity the delivery firm can insure against growth in the coming years. Managed right, these are good times for the major players in the sector.
