Wincanton wins Primark supply chain contract

Leading UK supply chain logistics provider Wincanton has won a new, five year contract with fast fashion retailer Primark to transport goods to all of its UK stores.

Under the deal beginning early in 2022, Wincanton is to make more than 50,000 deliveries to 191 Primark stores annually. The supply chain partner will aim at significant operational efficiencies to the safety, service and cost for the supply chain.

The contract will enable more than 100 Primark staff to stay in their roles and to join the 20,000 existing staff at Wincanton. They will mostly be in transport operations, benefiting from the real-time Winsight single platform technology suite.

The Winsight system will manage all transport activity in Primark’s UK supply chain. This is to be embedded alongside other execution tools as part of its commitment to continuously improve the delivery network.

Rachel Gilbey, MD of General Merchandise at Wincanton, said: “This is a significant contract which demonstrates strong momentum within the business, as we welcome our new colleagues to the Wincanton family. The Wincanton and Primark teams are working hand-in-hand to deliver a successful transformation for Primark’s transport operations. We look forward to continuing to innovate and unlock significant value for customers.”

Mark Shirley, Director of Logistics at Primark, said: “We are excited to be working with the Wincanton team whose size and expertise match the growing demand from our customers. Wincanton has developed sustainable solutions that will bolster Primark’s logistics capacity in the UK and we look forward to continuing to innovate and improve our transport operations.”
