Yandex moves into ultra-fast grocery delivery in Paris

Russian tech giant Yandex is to launch its within-the-hour delivery service in Paris. Yango Deli is to offer grocery and convenience deliveries within 15 minutes to Parisians.

Yandex Lavka is an established ultra-fast delivery service in Russia and now its parent company has set sights on Europe with London the next major urban centre set to get the Yango Deli service after Paris. It has already launched a similar service in Israel.

Russian arch-rival, Mail.Ru is looking to expand its own within-the-hour delivery service, Samokat, in New York later this year.

The Paris Yango Deli service is set to start with a large area covering 1 million residents in the French capital, and will endeavour to reach the whole city within the next 12 months.

Originally set up as Russia’s answer to Google, Yandex has concentrated its efforts in other areas beyond search and advertising in recent years. It is now the biggest taxi operator in Russia and has one of the largest e-commerce marketplaces in the country. Its Yandex Lavka within-the-hour delivery service is also one of the biggest in Russia.

The direction and investment seems to have benefitted the company that reported first half revenues in 2021 as 154bn rubles (£1.75bn).
