Yodel 2020 volumes up by 30% with 2021 peak recruitment up 40%

Thanks to a projected surge in parcel volumes in the coming peak season, UK independent parcel carrier Yodel is hiring 4,311 temporary staff, a 40% increase on the numbers it hired for the 2020 peak season.

In 2020, Yodel hired 3,000 warehouse staff and drivers for the peak season. The recruitment drive for this year is in part because overall volumes for the 2020 were 30% up on 2019 to 190 million parcels, and the peak season is expected to be the best for the firm in many years.

Yodel’s volumes are up thanks to a major uptick in online retail in the last 18 months, brought about by the pandemic. Even after restrictions were eased, online retailers have largely not seen their volumes drop, and this has in turn benefitted carriers like Yodel.

Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, commented: “We expect the ongoing growth in online retail will continue in the winter months as consumers look to finalise their Black Friday and Christmas shopping for friends, family and loved ones as conveniently as possible.

“There’s a huge breadth of roles available, with many presenting an opportunity to grow into long-term careers. By joining Yodel you’ll become part of a nationwide family and have options to work either full or part-time to suit your lifestyle.”
