Parcel delivery company Yodel is to take on 7,000 extra staff over the Christmas period. Many of those full time and part time roles will remain beyond the festive season due to a significant increase in business throughout the year.
800 directly employed drivers will wear Yodel liveried uniforms and drive Yodel vans. Meanwhile, 3,000 owner drivers will be hired who will be expected to drive their own vans. They will be based at their local service centres and will carry handheld computers.
Finally, 3,000 self employed couriers will be taken on – these will use their own cars, work flexible hours and be based at home.
All new staff will be fully trained to the company’s standards and many of those may remain with the company after the peak period.
Black Friday 2015 is expected to be the biggest ever, with four times the volume of packages previously packages delivered. All staff will work with the recently opened super service centres that have been designed to meet peak demand as well as normal business.
