The UK arm of Yusen Logistics has announced it has created a number of dedicated e-fulfilment centres that are close to major delivery hubs and will offer late cut-off times.
This move by Yusen Logistics into e-commerce has been made at the request of one of its oldest customers. A spokesperson for the company said, ”After being approached by them to set up a new operation, we now operate an e-commerce pick & pack solution alongside the existing retail operation.”
At present there are two sites operating the same model.
The general manager of solution design at Yusen logistics, Benjamin Bird, has said that the improving service levels resulted in increased repeated custom as well as higher end customer conversion rates.
In order to optimise the pick route Yusen developed its own proprietary software that would choose the pick route based on basket size, product dimension and product weight.
“We’re now looking at further improving our e-fulfilment operations by completely minimising carrier loss,” said Benjamin.
