About the Rankings
The Apex Insight Post Office Rankings focus on the 11 leading postal operators which were the subject of case studies in the postal operator benchmarking study we carried out in October-November 2016. This study compared the strategies, extent of diversification and performance of the postal operators in the top 20 global economies, plus Singapore.
To produce the study, we carried out extensive research on each postal operator which included scoring and ranking them on 36 different metrics under the categories of:
– Scale
– Performance
– Growth
– International diversification
– Business diversification
The Post Office Rankings give overall positions for each operator as well as a summary of how each compares to its peers across the range of metrics. The following operators are included:
– USPS
– Japan Post
– Deutsche Post
– Royal Mail Group
– La Poste
– Poste Italiane
– Canada Post
– Swiss Post
– PostNL
– PostNord
– Singapore Post
Highlights from the rankings
The top-ranked postal operator is Deutsche Post – based on its leading positions both in scale and in diversification via its global DHL logistics operations.
Japan Post, the largest operator by revenue and operating profit comes second – based on its strong performance scores, its business diversification with a large financial services business and – more recently – logistics via Toll Group, and its growth track record.
La Poste is in third place, ranking highly for the diversification measures having carried out the largest number of acquisitions over the last five years.
Post Nord is at the bottom of those postal operators included, due to its small size and decrease in revenue over the last five years
