The “Your DPD” delivery app will give customers of the delivery company more control over their parcel deliveries according to DPD.
Customers using the new app will be able to create their own profile, set delivery preferences, and track deliveries. They can also use it to ensure that drivers always avoid certain times of day, for example during the school run. Users can set up alternative delivery locations such as safe places, with neighbours, or their preferred DPD Pickup parcel shop.
The delivery company has announced that it has developed new, smartphone geolocation based technology that can automatically alert the DPD driver when the app user returns home. If a parcel could not be successfully delivered earlier in the day, the driver can make another attempt before they finish their round. The app user will be sent a notification advising them the driver is returning with the parcel.
DPD has said that it has tested the scheme on home shoppers who had received over 10,000 parcels in the last year to fine tune the usability and features of the app. It is free to download on Android and Apple app stores and is compatible with Apple Watches.
DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald said, “Our unique Predict and then Follow My Parcel services helped personalise parcel delivery. The Your DPD app takes that personalisation to a whole new level by letting you build your own delivery profile and dictate how you want to receive your DPD parcels.
“For the first time, customers can genuinely create their own parcel plan and be confident that whatever happens, they will have a range of choices, up to the minute information and real-time in-flight options to ensure they never miss a delivery again.
“Our drivers routinely go above and beyond what’s expected of them to get parcels to customers on the original day of delivery. The option to go back to customers who were out earlier in the day and make a successful delivery at the end of their round will be welcomed.”
DPD has produced a short film to explain how the app will work: http://www.dpd.co.uk/lp/yourdpd/index.html#video
