Evri trials e-cargo-bike

UK delivery company Evri has begun trialling an e-cargo-bike that the company claims should reduce carbon emissions buy 89%.

The machine being tested is made of natural fibre composites as well as recycled plastics and metals. It is being run on the same route as one that would be used by a van for a like-for-like comparison of deliveries.

The estimate on carbon savings has been calculated on fuel saved and adding back the carbon used to generate the electricity in charging the battery as well as the extra food consumed by the rider to power the machine.

Adrian Berry, innovation delivery manager at Evri, said, “It is early days as this is one of the first trials into this kind of delivery option but the results look extremely positive. Moving forward it may well play a role in our goal to create a network of sustainable delivery options to supplement our current courier model.”
